Description

Consequences associated with complete edentulism have been well documented and researched. Replacing natural dentition with conventional complete dentures represents a compromised tooth replacement therapy. The mandibular complete denture can be challenging for patients to adapt to due to a lack of retention, stability and support. The maxillary complete denture also can impede phonetics, taste and be especially problematic for the sensitive gagging patients who cannot tolerate a full palatal acrylic coverage.

Using digital dentures can improve clinical accuracies while decreasing the number of chairside appointments. Once complete dentures are fabricated accurately with application of retention, stability and support, clinical challenges can be managed by applying dental implant-retained overdentures. The predictability and high success rates of implant overdenture modalities have been well documented in scientific literature for the past 40 years. However, given the long history of dental implants as a viable treatment modality to edentulism, certain concepts in treatment planning can be confusing and conflicting.

This webinar was designed for the general practitioner to address and clarify the essential concepts in digital dentures and removable implant overdenture denture prosthetics in treatment planning for fully edentulous cases.

Dr. Lin graduated from the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Dentistry. He then completed a one-year general practice residency program at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He practiced general dentistry for 13 years and then returned to complete his postgraduate specialty training in prosthodontics at the University Of Toronto.

He was an assistant professor, former co-director of the postgraduate prosthodontic program and former co-director of the implant prosthodontic unit at the University of Toronto.

He currently is an editorial board member for prosthodontics for the Oral Health Journal and editorial board member for the Journal of Clinical & Practical Oral Implantology. He also serves as an expert consultant for the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario.

In addition, Lin maintains a full-time specialty practice as a prosthodontist, focusing on full-mouth reconstructions, dental implant surgery, various grafting procedures, implant prosthetics and management of implant complications.
