The lecture will address the process of assessing an odontogenic infection and when to prescribe antibiotics. An overview of antimicrobials will be presented so that the practitioner may decide on an appropriate medication and increase patient compliance. The lecture will also allow a practitioner to develop a method for assessing soft tissue lesions, and provide options for biopsy techniques.

Sherrill Fay, DMD, MD, received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from New Jersey Dental School, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey. Following her doctoral training, Dr. Fay completed a one-year general practice residency at Jersey City Medical Center. Dr. Fay completed four years of surgical residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then attended Jefferson Medical College, and upon graduation earned an MD degree. This was followed by an internship in general surgery, also at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Dr. Fay is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She has a private practice in New York City, and holds active teaching positions at The Mount Sinai Hospital and SBH Health Systems.
