This course will review the proceedings from the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions. Topics include a description of laser-assisted therapy, its mechanism of action and several case presentations; keys to success; pearls for treatment; and a video demonstration of laser surgery for the treatment of periodontal disease.

- Determine the mechanism of action, compare different wavelengths and review modalities of treatment for soft tissue and hard tissue lasers

Hana C. Hobbs, DDS, MS, is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology with more than 25 years of dental and periodontal experience. She earned her DDS from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and worked as general dentist in Charlotte, North Carolina, before earning a certificate in periodontology and a master’s degree in oral biology from the University of California at San Francisco. Hobbs maintains a private periodontal practice in Durham, North Carolina, and has been an assistant professor in the periodontology department of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry since 1997. She also served as president of the North Carolina Society of Periodontists in 2014. Hobbs has presented to numerous groups over the years on topics such as esthetic periodontal treatment, esthetic implant placement, treatment of peri-implantitis, the link between periodontal disease and diabetes, the new classification system for periodontal disease, and laser-assisted therapy for treating periodontal disease.
