We are often captivated by smile makeovers and “before and after” photos, but what happens during treatment? How exactly do we bring a patient from “before” to “after?” Provisionals are the vital link between the patient, dentist, and the laboratory, especially in large full mouth cases. This presentation will explore the different methods of provisionalization and how they can help achieve predictable results in fixed/implant prosthodontics.
- Explore the different methods of provisionalization
- Highlight the many indications and functions of provisionals
- Discuss how provisionals can help achieve predictable results in fixed/implant prosthodontics
Dr. Siu maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics in Toronto, Canada. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is a Board Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. He is one of very few dual boarded Prosthodontists in both Canada and the US. He is also a clinical instructor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry.
Dr. Siu is from Toronto and received his Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from McMaster University. He then completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. During his time there, he received multiple awards including the Academy of Osseointegration Award for Outstanding Dental Student in Implant Dentistry and the E. Howell Smith Award in Prosthetic Dentistry. He was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Honor Society and the Matthew Cryer Honor Society, the highest academic honor awarded to the top ten students in each class.
Dr. Siu is interested in complex cases and decided to pursue a specialty that would allow him to treat patients requiring reconstructive, implant, and cosmetic procedures. He believes prosthodontics is rewarding because it encompasses all aspects of dentistry and it can have the greatest positive impact on a patient.
Dr. Siu completed a 3-year specialty program in Advanced Prosthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he received extensive training in both the surgical and prosthetic aspects of implant treatment, computer-guided surgery, and conventional crown and bridge procedures. His area of research is in dental implants and restorations in the esthetic zone and his goal is to identify how patients see dental esthetics differently than dentists. His research is funded by grants from the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the Northeastern Gnathological Society.
