CAD/CAM material choices grow on a daily basis. It can be confusing to try to understand the application, selection, and science of each material and how these products will fit into your clinical practice. Preparation design also has an impact on the performance of these materials as we no longer prepare our teeth for a lab tech, we prepare them for a machine. This series will focus on the biology (the teeth), the engineering (the preparation, and materials science), and the chemistry (bonding). The purpose of this lecture is to place materials into categories for you to make informed clinical decisions in your own practice and to shine light on material interaction with preparation design. This first lecture topic will look at common material classifications for anterior indirect restorations.

Dr. Michael Kroll grew up in Hell, Michigan. He studied Biomedical Sciences at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan where He joined the United States Army in 2007 as a 2nd Lieutenant and He attended Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine as a reserve officer where he graduated with distinction earning a membership into Omicron Kappa Upsilon and receiving a Leadership award by the American College of Dentists. He commissioned as an active duty dental officer in 2011. Dr. Kroll completed his Residency in Comprehensive Dentistry and Masters in Oral Biology from Fort Hood, TX and the Uniform Service University school of Health Sciences. He is board certified by the American Board of General Dentistry, a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, a member of the American Dental Association. He currently serves as the Assistant Program Director, and CAD/CAM dentistry mentor for the Fort Sill-1 year AEGD and a deputy consultant for general dentistry services to the Surgeon General. Dr. Kroll was selected by the ADA as a Top 10 Dentist Under 10 years of clinical practice by the American Dental Association, received The Outstanding New Dentist Recognition by Case Western School of Dental Medicine, and The Army Corp Chief’s Award of Excellence.
